SOPA And PIPA Bills Protest – Will get Success?

The SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) as claimed by the proponents who proposed the bill in the US House Of Representatives would protect the intellectual property market and is very important for the enforcement of the copyright laws, especially for the sites which are owned outside US.

But on the other hand would take away the freedom of speech on the internet and is against First Amendment, is Internet censorship. In protest of this Bill all over the world and in US in particular many sites including the major internet players like Wikipedia, tumblr, Some U.S. Senate websites appear to be lagging Wednesday due to a blackout of their own — personal contact pages for several senators are not loading and Google showed is protest by censoring its logo with a black strip to the join the hands with other on the internet blackout day i.e., 18th of January.

If this Bill becomes a law then the freedom of speech would certainly come to end. As PIPA says “information location tool shall take technically feasible and reasonable measures, as expeditiously as possible, to remove or disable access to the Internet site associated with the domain name set forth in the order”. And in addition, it must delete all hyperlinks to the offending “Internet site”.

Most of the major internet players have reacted to it by calling the internet blackout on Wednesday, Google had censored its logo with a black ribbon in protest of SOPA and give it slogan as “End Privacy, Not Liberty” and with their awareness page they are appealing the people to “Tell Congress: Don’t censor the Web” by submitting their name, mail is and zip code to protest against this Bill. With this giant company joining hands against the Bill would surely make a difference and would pose a strong opposition.

Three things that Google mentioned in its site and are close to the truth they are:

1. SOPA and PIPA would censor the Web : Like in China, search engines would be forced to delete many websites links.

2. SOPA and PIPA would be job-killers because they would create a new era of uncertainty for American business : Because this one of the growing platform those who are seeking jobs.

3. SOPA and PIPA wouldn’t stop piracy : One of its major aim as pointed out by the architects of this bill but it would fail to do so.

After much await another internet giant CEO of worlds most popular site Facebook Mark Zuckerberg finally broke his silence and released his opinion on SOPA by saying :

“The internet is the most powerful tool we have for creating a more open and connected world. We can’t let poorly thought out laws get in the way of the internet’s development. Facebook opposes SOPA and PIPA, and we will continue to oppose any laws that will hurt the internet.
The world today needs political leaders who are pro-internet. We have been working with many of these folks for months on better alternatives to these current proposals. I encourage you to learn more about these issues and tell your congressmen that you want them to be pro-internet.”

We are strongly opposing Sopa and Pipa by putting a ribbon in our blog at the top. Do sign the petitions and oppose this to get your freedom. :)

It’s a shame that politicians think that the public is foolish enough to believe they would accept that this bill was about piracy. It’s not. The piracy won’t stop. It’s like thinking that if the world gun ban went though that all the guns will go away. Those who are going to do illegal activity will still continue to do it.
