Google Nexus 7 getting Android 4.1.1 Update – adds Google Wallet

The Google Nexus 7 has yet to hit retail, but Google has already started rolling out the first Android update for its latest device. If you’re one of the 6,000 Google I/O attendees that went home with a Google Nexus 7 tablet, you should check to see if there’s an update waiting for you.

Yeah, you will be among the first to see Jelly Bean 4.1.1 rolling out since the update, which first appeared on the AOSP servers just yesterday, is now available for the much-lauded 7-inch tablet.

The Android 4.1.1 update for the Google Nexus 7 arrives in a whooping 12.6MB download package pushing your device to Jelly Bean. In terms of the changes, this update brings offline voice recognition, Google Now, improved text input and UI improvements.

Not Officially but some have mentioned seeing the appearance of Google Wallet with this update. Kind of funny though, since the tablet does not have its own cellular radio it will not be able to be taken anywhere to use Google Wallet.

If you are about to get your hand on Google Nexus 7 by the end of the week, chances are it will get an Android 4.1.1 update as soon as you power it up. Good news for Galaxy Nexus users, too. Google is rolling out Jelly Bean for the HSPA+ version of the handset.

So, if you are the proud owner of a HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus, you will receive the update over the next few days. Let’s hope the update for the Nexus S and Xoom won’t be far behind.
