Google Drive Launched with 5 GB Free Storage Full Tutorial [Video]

After years of rumors, Google Drive officially launched today to dominated over the Drop-box. As expected, the service will offer 5GB of storage space for documents, videos, photos, PDFs and other files, and Google Docs is built-in to the service.

What is Google Drive?

Google Drive is a cloud storage service  where you can create, share, collaborate, and keep all of your stuff. Whether you’re working with a friend on a joint research project, planning a wedding with your fiance or tracking a budget with roommates, you can do it in Drive.

It’s easily accessible from a wide variety of devices, like Android tablets and phones, as well as the iPad and the iPhone . Google Drive for PC, Mac and Android apps will launch today. The iOS app of this will launch in the coming next few weeks.

Integrate with Gmail & Other third party apps.

You’ll be able to open things you saved in Google Drive using other service too; it can handle more than 30 different types of files, including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and HD video, and you don’t even have to have those programs installed on your computer.

Drive also pretty much does away with email attachments, which makes sharing a lot easier. If you wanted to show a friend a video of your vacation, you could just pass them a link to that file, rather than adding it to a clunky message. You wouldn’t have to upload it to a message and your friend wouldn’t have to wait around to download a big file.

With Google Drive, you can:

  • Create and collaborate. Google Docs is built right into Google Drive, so you can work with others in real time on documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Once you choose to share content with others, you can add and reply to comments on anything (PDF, image, video file, etc.) and receive notifications when other people comment on shared items.
  • Store everything safely and access it anywhere (especially while on the go).  All your stuff is just… there. You can access your stuff from anywhere—on the web, in your home, at the office, while running errands and from all of your devices. You can install Drive on your Mac or PC and can download the Drive app to your Android phone or tablet.
  • Search everything. Search by keyword and filter by file type, owner and more. Drive can even recognize text in scanned documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. Let’s say you upload a scanned image of an old newspaper clipping. You can search for a word from the text of the actual article.

How to extend the Space?

You can get started with 5GB of storage for free—that’s enough to store the high-res photos of your trip to the Mt. Everest, scanned copies of your grandparents’ love letters or a career’s worth of business proposals, and still have space for the novel you’re working on. You can choose to upgrade to 25GB for $2.49/month, 100GB for $4.99/month or even 1TB for $49.99/month. When you upgrade to a paid account, your Gmail account storage will also expand to 25GB.

Google Drive v/s Dropbox

Dropbox has now 45 million users, which is the leading cloud storage service. It only gives you 2GB for free, and also you have to turn to Drive by default to decide the destination for their data. You can’t do this just by signing up for an outside service. But Now with Google Drive you can use it with Gmail and for most people, 5GB is pretty sufficient, meaning they’re going to stick with Google.

Seems Good. But it is not yet available for everyone including mine. It shows me, ‘Google Drive coming soon to your Account’. But anyways, this cloud storage will knock them everybody else as max people trust and go with Google rather than any other cloud storage sites!

Google Docs and Gmail also got expanded in their storage capacity. Google is becoming an Era of Simplicity.

Microsoft CloudDrive gives you 20GB for free and has integration with iPad and apps for everything, Amazon gives you 5GB free too I think, Google has tough competition here. I am using Dropbox still for the group sharing of folders and work, plus I had it upgraded to 10GB with the referral program without paying anything.

Only 5GB of space i thought they will give at-least 10GB space to out class other competitors.
